Winnie The Pooh Bear 1980's

Winnie the pooh 1980's Teddy Bear

I used to be a school teacher and part of my duties was to help run a jumble sale my school ran throughout the year.

We are talking 25 to 30 years ago now when i last worked at the school and helped run one of these sales. On this last occasion we were packing everything up and the goods which were not sold were being bundled up to either be thrown away or given to charity.

My eye spotted this Winnie the pooh bear sitting forlornly on one of the tables. Yes he did not look anything special and he was rather tatty but i still could not believe that no one wanted to buy him. I couldn't bear the thought that he was going to be thrown away again and so for the grand price of 25p I brought him home to join my other bears.

I know nothing about his history or what company made him as he has no labels. I know he is at least 25 years old and looks like he is based on the drawings of Winnie the pooh in the books rather than the Disney films. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has a similar bear and if they know more about him.

He currently sits on my bed where he keeps company with about 12 other teddy bears and moves to a chair every night so that both I and my husband can get into bed. My husband seems to have a soft spot for him too as i think he brings back memories from our early days together.

Winnie

This is the first time I've ever seen a bear the same as mine. I was born in 74, and as far as I remember/was told, I've had him since a baby. Never knew where he came from as there is no label or anything. He has a small blue top instead of red, and is a bit worn and torn - his back is stitched up and nose almost worn away. But he is much loved and will never be parted with. But glad to see another like him.

Winnie the Pooh Teddy
by: Anonymous

I’ve literally been searching for years on this beat. He is my childhood prized possession. My uncle used to collect teddies from London and gave this one to me in 1987. He has a small red waist coat and porcelain honey pot! I knew he would have come from London but I’ve always tried searching for Harrods and Selfridges as that’s where he normally brought them. I’m so please d I’ve found this page! I’ll snap a photo of mine and add him!

Help wanted to find my childhood Winnie the Pooh
by: SLCavin

Hi, I had this bear too. I’m 35 years old and grew up with this bear always by my side. Over the years he has been misplaced and I am truly gutted. He had a wee red waistcoat aswell. I also put 2 Winnie the Pooh badges on his waistcoat. He is the spitting image of that picture. My mum and dad can’t remember where they got him. I would be really grateful if someone had one that they were selling or if someone can point me in the direction of trying to locate one. I should have taken better care of him but as life passes and house moves has been lost.
Thank you in advance

My sad bear story
by: Anonymous

I had one of these bears for as long as I can remember. ‘Teddy’ was my favourite toy by far. I was born in 1977 so he must have arrived on the scene not long after that. I kept him into my 20s and when I was moving interstate (I live in Australia) I stored him ‘safe’ at my mums place. But my (very controlling!) Mum threw him out, she told me I was too old to have a teddy bear. I was gutted. I have searched far and wide for a replacement. If you were ever willing to pack him off to Australia for an adventure please let me know!!
Cheers
Imogen :)

I have one of these. i was born in 1979. my mum made him a red vest so i dont know if he ever had one. the photos looks like mine with same features and seams. Mine however is signifcantly more battered with repairs. He is much loved and 'grandpa winnie the pooh' visits my kids beds when they cant sleep

Another one from the 80s
by: Daisy

I also think I have this bear. The seams are all in the same places as my beloved Pooh bear, but as with all things, my mother had a tendency to shrink everything in the washing machine so he looks a lot ‘tighter’ than this one! I was born in 1982 and all I know about him is that Dad bought him from a lady who worked in his office. My bear also had a wee red waitcoat that is no longer. I don’t remember it - he’s always been naked! He’s very worn and very well loved. He’s very special to me and even to this day, I take him in my handbag when I move house, just to make sure he’s safe!

I have this bear!
by: Sarah

I have no idea when this original request for info was made but I just came across this page when trying to find some information on my beloved Winnie the Pooh.

He was given to me when I was born in 1980 and was apparently purchased in London at Hamleys. He is rather well loved now but wore a wee red waistcoat when he was new.

There is something special about this bear and I would love to find out more about him too if anyone else has come across him!
