Big Toy Brown Bear

Big Toy Brown Bear

I was given this bear quite a few years ago from an elderly lady that said it had been in her family for over 100 years. She wanted me to have it because she wanted it taken care of. As you can see by the title, it is a Carousel bear by Guy. I have been able to find small bears by Guy but nothing of the magnitude of this one. I would like to find out its value to either sell it or donate it to a worthy cause. It is my understanding that this could be quite a collectable. If anyone can help identify this bear and/or its value I would be most appreciative.

I have this exact bear which my mother bought new around 1980. At that time she paid around $100.00 for it.

Great quality bear
by: Anonymous

I worked for Carousel company in the mid 80s. It was Animal Fair. Carousel and was partbof BI (business Incentives) which was all owned by Guy Schoenecker. Their bears are of the highest quality but it’s no where near 100 years old. I remember the top secret meeting in the conference room where they names the new bears. Regardless of the age you have a great bear.

Thorndike?
by: Mike W

It looks very much like the early 1980s plush bears that are listed as Guy (TM) with a Classic Carousel necklace - they made several variations in color and size. There are white (polar bear) ones called "Windsor" on the nametag, light brown ones called "Thorndike" and dark brown ones called "Brewster" - the smaller ones are about 14 inches tall sitting (I have a Brewster and Thorndike in this size) and the larger ones are about double that size, which I believe is the picture you posted, of a Thorndike in this size (I have a Brewster in this size also). There may have been another size, I can't recall. There is also another one from Guy that is somewhat similar named "Kodiak" that comes in even bigger sizes.
