Learning the story behind my grandmother's bear

Grandmothers teddy bear

Grandmothers teddy bear

This bear was in my late grandma's garage for years. Since sorting out her affairs I've been going through her possessions and finally have the chance to start asking questions about the history of her things. In the past, I asked my grandma several times about the bear but she did not remember.

My mother believes it belonged to my grandma when she was a child. She was born in 1930, in Ipswich, Suffolk UK.

It is weighty and crackles when squeezed and I am not able to recognise the type of fur used. The colour of the fur looks like it was a golden light brown.

The bear may have glass eyes, as these are cool to the touch, and sadly one is broken but has been mended. The bear also has a hand stitched nose and has no tag.

No tag.

The death of my grandmother has opened up a world which I didn't know anything about. Looking after my grandmother during her elder years was a privilege, but it was a shame that I was not able to capture memories - or learn more about - her younger years.

I would love to know more about this bear, any help would be greatly appreciated. To know if this was indeed a teddy that was born in the 1930s, and therefore likely my grandmother's, would be one gap in the rather empty storyboard filled.

Thank you for any help you can give,

Sian
