Ted

Ted

This is Ted, he's my very first teddy given to me by my uncle mike who was only four years older than me; quite a sacrifice for him. I have loved Ted to bits as both child and adult, as a child I used to like dressing him in different outfits, he was my very special friend. As you can see from the photos he's very well worn and I have had to mend him on a number of occasions and at one time he was covered in fur; unfortunately most of it has now worn off. To me Ted represents my childhood, love, life, hard knocks and sacrifice.

I have recently found out that there is someone not too far from where I live who repairs bears and restores them to their former glory, so in the New Year Ted is going to hospital for a short stay..... Feeling quite anxious for him, in the mean time does any one have any idea what make he is, he is similar to number 34 Daddy Teddy I think?

My Ted too
by: Bren

I was born 1957 and got my Ted ( only ever knew him as "Ted") soon after presumably. I am No 6 of 8 children and the only one who still has his Ted. Have just become a Grandad so will be passing him on to my granddaughter. Probably better condition than the one pictured but not by much! He has a stain above his eye. As a toddler I took a fall and had lump on me forehead. Mum spread butter on it (home remedy!?) and I insisted Ted got the same treatment. Chad Valley sounds right. Sadly I think Ted can only be an ornament in granddaughter’s room. I don’t think he would survive vigorous living by granddaughter!

Looks like my ted.
by: Claire

I have spent the last month trying to find a match for my childhood teddy. I was born in 1956 and given teddy for my first Christmas. Unfortunately when I was nine mum decided to recover him because he was very tatty and leaking sawdust!
I think your teddy is almost the same as mine. From the research I have done I think both are Chad Valley. One major identification factor is the material the pads are made of. From the wear pattern that I can see I think your teddy has rexene covered pads, this is a synthetic suede made by painting onto linen. Often there was a square label on the right foot pad, and a label sewn into his right side, I can’t see your ted well enough to know if he does. All his joints should move through 360degrees, even his head.
Hope this helps,
Claire
