The mysterious Womble

So this is womble and as far as I know was given to my sister in the 70s in Manchester, England. I have tried to research any similar womble soft toys but I cannot find anything to match him. He is a much cherished toy and as you can see well used. I would love to know more about him, but he doesn't have any tags or identifiable markings.

I am unsure of the filling but some of it is unfortunately protruding from his neck as you will see in the photo. It's feels like soft wool but he is quite firm.

It looks like his head has been down back on at some point.

I can't be sure he was new when my sister was given him.
